Train for Success

Ride-Tek MTA strongly recommends that you take the appropriate training course before attempting the testing. We have an almost 100% success rate for its course participants. On the other hand, there is a very low success rate for riders who attempt the testing without taking the RideTek training course. Save yourself time, money and inconvenience and get it right the first time by taking a RideTek MTA Training Course.

All tests and training are conducted on our fleet of Honda, Daelim, Sachs and Arqin Motorcycles and Scooters.

VicRoads Motorcycle Licence Test

We are proud to be the first company to animate what is involved in the test to ensure you have a better understanding of what the practicle test involves.

The test is made up of two exercises with six tests of skill: simply click on the red arrow to see animation of exercise.
Requires Macromedia Flash Plug-In.

You must have held a current Motorcycle Learners Permit for 3 months to obtain licence

To receive a Motorcycle Licence, you must:

Hold a current Motorcycle Learner Permit
Pass the Vicroads Motorcycle Licence Skill Test

Exercise 1A | Exercise 1B | Exercise 2A | Exercise 2B | Stopping the Test

These exercises are used to objectively measure the minimum riding skills required of applicants for a motorcycle driver licence. Specifically, it is an off-street test designed to assess basic motorcycle control, turning speed judgement and hazard avoidance skills.

Exercise 1A - Left Curve

During this exercise you must accelerate from a stop and ride through the curve as quickly as you safely can (1A to 1B). Penalty points will be assessed according to the speed travelled through the curve and if a path violation occurred. This exercise tests your ability to determine an acceptable speed on curves.

Exercise 2A
- Quick Stop

Starting from a stop, accelerate to 20-25 km/h and maintain a steady speed through the timing zone. Then perform the manoeuvre indicated (quick stop or swerve). As many as six runs may be required. Quick stopping performance is graded according to your speed and distance to stop (measured at your front tyre).

Exercise 2B - Swerve (left)

Starting from a stop, accelerate to 20-25 km/h and maintain a steady speed through the timing zone. Then perform the manoeuvre indicated . Swerves are scored by measuring how far from the centre point of the obstacle avoidance line your rear tyre is when it crosses. You should not brake during the swerve until you have straightened your motorcycle. This exercise tests your hazard avoidance skills.
